When to wear white curtains: How to stay warm during winter in Washington D.C.
It was a cold night, but everyone in the White House suite of the Capitol was still warm and cozy.
The White House is home to the nation’s most powerful elected officials, but the temperature dropped quickly as the winter chill set in.
That is because the weather in the capital has been so dry this year that many residents opted to wear jackets and coats.
Here’s how to stay comfortable during winter and stay warm in D.A.C.’s winter palace.

Scott Applewhite/AP) If you are wearing a jacket, wear it with a long sleeve, long pants and a long sleeved shirt or hoodie.
A short sleeved or light-colored shirt is more flattering for the colder weather.
If you have to wear a long coat, you can wear it over a sweater.
Do not wear a hat or gloves when you are outside in the cold, and always bring a scarf or jacket when going outside.
If in the city, wear a warm scarf and a hat to keep you warm and to protect you from the elements.
Wear a long-sleeved shirt underneath a sweater and keep it short.
If the weather is very cold, bring a long scarf and coat to wear as a hat.
Make sure to wear gloves to protect your hands from the cold.
Do NOT use a jacket if you are working outdoors in the winter.
You must wear a jacket or long-Sleeve shirt, long sleeves and gloves for all outdoor work.
A jacket should never be used as a makeshift head scarf.
If your jacket or pants are too long or tight, you will be uncomfortable and will probably get frostbite.
Wear long sleeves and keep them short, or wear a sleeveless shirt underneath and wear a scarf to keep it warm.
Always wear long sleeves, long socks and gloves if working outdoors.
Keep in mind that it is the heat that creates frostbite, so if you have any skin conditions or allergies, you must wear gloves.
Wear your gloves and a scarf when working outside if possible, especially when working indoors.
The National Park Service offers free gloves for people who work outdoors.
